Diabetes Ride Review
We had 14 donors for our trail ride which resulted in $215.00 donation to the Nevada Diabetis Association.
Although I over estimated the time it would take to travel from Stage Stop to the park, I think everyone enjoyed the ride.
The weather was terrific and we got to do a little conditioning in the sand dunes.
Even if there had been no ride I would have been happy to make the $15.00 donation to just see Bob Cronk's
little Icelandic mare...she is a real sweetheart!
At the end of the ride at the arena we joined some of the "Walk for a Cure" (I understand they had 106 walkers for this
first time event) walkers in walking through the vendor area and forming a circle around the outside of the Pow Wow
Sacred circle and in the release of white balloons.
The Nevada Diabetis Association was most appreciative of PETRA's involvement and donation. The PETRA
board would like to thank all who participated
PETRA may have even recruited 3 new members.
December will be the Santa Saddlebags fund raisers for Toys for Tots with our first ride on Dec 5th, an arena event at
the Strickland arena on Dec 12th and a final trail ride on Dec 19th. These are all open to the public and rider donations
of $25.00 per event. So encourage your friends to join us. As PETRA policy 100% of the funds received donated will go
First, let me wish you all a happy and prosperous new year for 2010.
PETRA conducted its first trail ride for 2010 today. It was another good ride with a lot of washes and arroyos to ride up down and through. We actually rode on part of the Old Spanish Trail and so traveled on a small part of history.
We had 12 riders and gained three new members to PETRA.
Easter Ride
The weather was pleasant and the trail conditions good and no injuries to horse or riders (although we did have a little "excitement"). At the end of the approximate 3 hour ride we had chili and cornbread (provided courtesy of Saddle West), hot dogs, cold cuts, apple pie, donuts and a lemon cake all either provided be PETRA or donated by ride participants.
We want to give special recognition to Debra Strickland for bringing her 5th wheel so that we had all the comforts of home.
Although the weather was a little breezy we still had a nice day for the Easter ride fund raiser for Nathan Adelson. Eventhough we only had 10 riders this year PETRA still generated $860 from ride, raffles, chili lunch and donations that went 100% to Nathan Adelson.
Rich Brain did an outstanding job in getting items (including 8 bales of hay from Shadow Mountain) for the raffle.
The memorial "empty saddle" carrying names of those who have passed on raised approximately $200 and will be a regular feature of future rides. We want to thank Jim Hannah for providing "Peaches" to carry the "empty saddle".
Thanks to all who made the ride and supported the event.
We are still planning an arena event and hopefully, the weather will finally cooperate. You will receive notice when the event is
If you have not re-newed your membership in PETRA for 2010, I would like to ask that you do so.
Thanks
