Pony Express Conditioning Rides

PETRA will be scheduling a series of conditioning rides to prepare for Pony Express Trail Ride.  The present schedule is to start July 10th and then every two weeks.  The first rides will be about 2 hours r/t and increase to 2.5 in August and 3.0 in Sept. The July 10th ride will start at 7 am for a ride in the Wheeler Pass area.  The July 24th ride will be a moonlight ride in the Crystal area and more information will be provided soon.

MOONLIGHT RIDE

The next PETRA conditioning ride for the Pony Express will be Saturday July 24th.  The ride will be from Crystal with a gathering at 6:30 pm at the Short Branch.  We will not ride until about 7:30 so there will be time for those who would like to have dinner to do
so before the ride.

The Short Branch specialty is meat loaf, but if you would prefer a steak you need to call ahead and makearrangements.
Sunday the 25th is to be a full moon so our ride on Saturday (7-24) should have plenty of moon light.  The total ride will
probably be about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

There is no ride fee, but we would like to ask every rider to bring a can or two of food which we will donate to the Pahrump food bank.

NOTES

Jim and Mary Hannah, Debra Strickland and myself participated in the re-ride of the Pony Express trail from the remains of the original Sand Springs station to Cold Creek (about 34 miles...we rode about 25 miles) on June 12th.  It was a great
experience and we each were able to carry a Mochilla (just like the historic P.E) that started in California and will be carried to
St Joseph, Missouri.

The re-ride is done every year (2011 will be from east to west) and we all would like to do it again.  We hope to get a number of
riders from Pahrump to join us and maybe have enough to cover one or more complete relay segments.

Well worth the trip!

Any questions call me 764-8004 or email me.

Debra and Larry Strickland will make their arena available to PETRA as a "home" arena for our events at no charge for other
than utilities..
The arena will be available anytime PETRA needs it.
If your not familiar with their arena, it is off of Homestead directly across from Terrible's Lakeside. It has plenty of
parking and will have water and electrical.

We want to thank Debra and Larry for their generous offer to make their arena the PETRA home. This will provide a venue for
PETRA that will allow us to expand the numbers and types of PETRA events that will be of interest to our members.

Look forward to seeing you on the trail!
